Collins files petitions for Congress

State Sen. Jacqui Collins filed her petitions this morning to run for the

1st Congressional District seat being vacated by Congressman Bobby Rush. She issued the following statement:

“I’d like to thank the constituents of the 1st Congressional District who signed our petitions and joined our campaign to make sure justice has a seat at the table in Washington. The people of the 1st Congressional District deserve a representative in Washington who they can count on.

We need a Congressperson who can deliver on a bold, progressive agenda and create economic and social policies that reduce inequality, expand opportunities, and strengthen communities. That’s what I’ve done in Springfield and hopefully the voters send me to Washington to do the same.”

Collins, who kicked off her campaign Friday, has secured the only union endorsement in the race thus far from the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 11 Chicago. Her campaign is being co-chaired by IL Senate Black Caucus Chair Robert Peters and IL Sen. Elgie Sims.
