True Violence Prevention Doesn’t Include Wrapping a Bubble Around a Tourist Attraction

The following is a statement from state Sen. Jacqui Collins, Democratic candidate for Illinois’ 1st Congressional District:

“Closing Millennium Park from our youth sends the message that they’re the problem. It tells us that violence doesn’t belong downtown, but it does belong in our communities. As chairwoman of the Illinois Gun Violence Prevention Caucus, I know true violence prevention comes from cutting down on illegal guns, working collaboratively with Washington and Illinois’ congressional delegation to fight for federal gun control, and investing in our communities. Without any of that, we’ll never achieve the true public safety that all of Chicago deserves.”
